15 Essential Upgrades for Your Motorhome

15 Essential Upgrades for Your Motorhome: My Must-Have Gear

Whether you’re a weekend warrior or a full-time nomad, the right gear can transform your motorhome experience from "functional" to "fantastic." After countless miles on the road from the wild coasts of Scotland to the hidden gems of Europe, I’ve refined my kit down to the absolute essentials.

Here are 15 items I’ve bought that have truly stood the test of time.

1. Ecoflow Delta 3 Power Station with Solar

I get asked about this one constantly: do you even need it, what does it actually do, which size should you get? Honestly, if you mostly stay on campsites with hookup, you probably don't need one, spend the money on something else instead. But if you love going off-grid (like I do!), this is the one I have, which powers most things. If you want something to power your air fryer or small hair dryer.

2. Air Fryer

I resisted this one for ages because it felt like just one more gadget I didn't have room for. Turns out I was wrong. I use this all the time, especially when it's warm and I don't want to use the heat of the main oven in the motorhome. It’s quick, efficient, and makes crispy perfection every time.

Amazon: Ayr Fryer

3. A Decent Travel Mug

This sounds like such a boring one to include, but stick with me. There's nothing worse than finally remembering to drink your cup of tea, and it's gone cold. This keeps drinks warm (but not TOO warm) for hours, saving you from constant re-boiling the kettle.

Amazon: Thermos Travel Mug

4. Rechargeable Fan

If you don't have air conditioning in your motorhome, then you'll need a fan—yes, even in the UK. This one is powerful and rechargeable, so you can use it while off-grid. I leave it on for the dog too if I pop out to ensure he stays cool.

Amazon: Ateroll Rechargable Fan

5. Inverter

At some point, you'll want to run something that needs an actual three-pin plug. For me, I use this mainly to charge things, but I also use it to run the Starlink when off-grid, my hairdryer, or to charge up drone batteries. Again, if you mainly stay on campsites with hookup, you don't need this, but for the wild campers, it's a game-changer.

Amazon: Edecoa 2000W Pro Power Inverter

6. Apple AirTags

I once lost my keys in the NEC. Yep, they could have been ANYWHERE inside five halls of thousands of vans and people. Luckily, I found them, but ever since, I've used these. I have them on all my keys, my wallet, and even on the dog! Peace of mind for a very low price.

Amazon: Apple Air Tags

7. Reversing Camera

If your motorhome didn't come fitted with one, I'd put this near the top of the list, especially if you're newer to driving something this size. I've reversed onto some pretty awkward pitches over the years, and having a reversing camera is essential in my opinion.

This one needs no wiring and has incredible reviews Auto - Vox 7.2 Solar Wireless Reversing Camera

8. Drone

A drone isn't an essential, but it is BRILLIANT for capturing your adventures in a different way. Yes, I have lost two (Ireland and the Outer Hebrides, since you're asking), but the footage is worth the learning curve. I use mine on every trip and never regret bringing it. (For those booked onto the Morocco trip, do NOT bring a drone!) If you're new to using a drone, this is the one I recommend:

Amazon: DJI Mini 4

9. 12V Hoover

If you travel with a dog, have long hair (or both!), you'll understand why this made the list. Mud, sand, dog hair, my hair—living in a few square metres means you're hoovering constantly, and this is the best one I've found that actually reaches everywhere it needs to.

Amazon: 12v Hoover

10. Proper Camping Chairs

I love these chairs. I love that they can be 'normal' chairs, but then you can recline and relax in them too. They're not the best if you just want them for eating, but for relaxing outside in the evening, I think they're great.

Amazon: Camping Chairs

11. Cadac BBQ Chef 2 Pro

Cooking outside is just better. And, with a motorhome, gas is better than charcoal as it doesn't need so long to cool down. This one is great, easy to clean, and packs up small.

Amazon: Cadac BBQ Chef 2 Pro

12. Karcher Window Vac

If you've ever woken up to a windscreen running with condensation, you already know exactly why this is on the list. It makes light work of clearing the glass, and honestly, it’s so much fun to use! Get the ultimate condensation fighter:

Amazon: Karcher Window Vacuum WV 2 Plus

13. Folding Table

The table that came with my motorhome is rubbish. It can be used outside, but the leg is so unstable it's pointless. So I got this one and have never looked back. I store it on the bed when driving and then it sits against the wall or outside when parked up.

Amazon: Folding Table 4ft Heavy Duty

14. Dry Robe

Another thing I thought I'd never need—and now I use it all the time. It's perfect for walking to the shower block on a site, getting changed on the beach, or throwing on to walk the dog in the rain. It’s an absolute staple for the British climate.

Amazon: Dry Robe

15. Mirror Protectors

These are an essential. Seriously. They come in several styles and sizes, so be sure you order the right ones, but they will save you when you eventually scratch down a hedge... or a wall! Protect your investment

Amazon: Milenco 4732 Mirror Protectors
